Venice – the city of water and carnival

Venice – everybody associates Venice with a city on water, aromatic Mediterranean cuisine and above all the Carnival of Venice. The Carnival of Venice is the oldest street entertainment in Europe. Its roots date back to around the 11th century and the main concept is to remain unrecognized and take part in festivities – every participant presents itself wearing a fancy mask. In the past the reason behind it was mainly to blur the line between the rich and the poor inhabitants of the Republic of Venice. However, these days it is just an element of entertainment. Who wouldn’t like to, at least once, take part in this unique, the only one of its kind carnival masquerades.
